How to Build a Company Website — Step by Step

21/07/2026

Every business needs to exist online — nobody argues with that anymore. But the moment you sit down to build the site, you are met with a forest of terms: domain, hosting, SSL, WordPress, themes, plugins. This guide untangles all of it, in the order the work actually happens.

Step 1: Register a domain

Your domain is your address — what customers type into a browser. The rules are simple: short, easy to say over the phone, no hyphens or numbers. Use a national extension if you serve one country, .com if you sell internationally — many businesses buy both and redirect one to the other. Expect €10-25 per year. Check availability before you fall in love with a name.

Step 2: Get hosting

Hosting is the server your site lives on, and it is where saving money hurts most. Slow hosting means a slow site, and a slow site means fewer calls and orders — Google pushes slow sites down in results. What to look for: NVMe SSD storage, free SSL, daily backups and a CDN. For a company brochure site, a plan around €4-5 monthly is plenty — that is exactly what our SEO Start plan costs, with all of the above included.

Step 3: Install WordPress

WordPress powers 40% of the web and is the safest choice for a business site: free, endlessly flexible, and every developer knows it if you ever need help. On decent hosting the install is one click and takes a minute. Then pick a theme — choose simple and fast over flashy.

Step 4: Build the pages that matter

Five pages are enough to start: Home (what you do and for whom, with a clear call to action), Services or Products, About (people trust people — put faces and names on it), Contact (phone, address, map, opening hours) and Pricing if you publish it. Write in your customers'' language, not corporate-speak.

Step 5: Cover the SEO basics

Nothing scientific: every page needs a clear title containing the phrase people search ("Emergency plumber Manchester"), the site must run on https, load fast and read well on a phone. Submit it to Google Search Console and create a Google Business Profile — both free, both bring local customers.

What it costs and how long it takes

Domain ~€15/year, hosting from ~€50/year, WordPress free, theme free to €60. If you write the content yourself, the site can be live over a weekend. Our honest advice: start modest but start now — a site that exists and loads fast beats a perfect site that is "almost ready" for six months. And if you get stuck, that is what support is for.
