What is its PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) — a measure of how much power goes to the servers themselves versus cooling; closer to 1.0 is better. Does it refresh hardware or run ten-year-old machines? If the provider has concrete numbers and certificates, the story holds up; if it only has a green logo, be cautious.
What you can do on your side
A site''s footprint does not depend only on the provider. Optimized images (WebP/AVIF), caching, fewer surplus plugins, and a CDN that serves content from the nearest location all reduce the amount of data transferred and, in turn, energy use. A faster site is almost always a "greener" site too, because fewer bytes mean less work for the network and devices.
